Maine Summers

I've spent the past few days on the coast at my mom's and it's been a flurry of beautiful, sunny days, mixed in with evening rain showers that lull me to sleep, only to be awoken once more by the lobster boats in the bay. As a result, the gardens are in full bloom and the peonies are doing their best to show off.

It's fun to go for a walk into the town, made up by a couple of small shops, a post office where everyone knows everyone, a public library, and a general store.

Off the pavement and back onto the dirt road that leads to my mom's, the smell of ocean air intermingling with fresh cut grass and wild flowers is invigorating.

On Tuesday morning, we made reservations at Tinder Hearth, a must-visit bakery in what seems to be the middle of nowhere.

It began raining a few minutes into our pizzas, so we moved from the lawn into the barn.

We had ordered enough to feed an army, but it left us with scrumptious leftovers.  

We started with salads of fresh garden greens, cucumber, and homemade croutons.

The pizzas impressed as usual.

Cheese: Pecorino and Mozzarella on Tomato Sauce

Meat: Pepperoni, Artichoke Hearts, Farm Greens on Mozzarella and Tomato Sauce

We ended with homemade chocolate chip ice cream sandwiches that were gently sprinkled with sea salt. It filled us to the brim, but as we all waddled out, there weren't any complaints.

I'd say summer is going pretty well so far :)
